A House Amidst Nature – In Gothenburg Archipelago, Sweden

On a cold sunny day like today, I dream a little dream about living on an island. Well, not really in the wilderness and off-grid (I was reading about travelling to wilderness and I have some thoughts – will write a post on that soon), neither a very popular island filled with tourists. Perhaps somewhere in between – an island house with other inhabitants, enjoying the nature but grocery, shopping and basic amenities should not be very far away. I did a quick search and fortunately, I found the right house in the right place. A sun-filled (that is a must for me) architect-designed villa on the island of Brännö in the Gothenburg Archipelago. The Gothenburg Archipelago is made up of more than 20 islands in western Sweden. They are not far away from the mainland, but all of them offer a peaceful respite from city life.

Brännö is on the southern part of the Gothenburg archipelago and it is one of the liveliest with just over 800 inhabitants. The island provides much needed calm and tranquility but is just a short boat ride away. Read here for more information on Sweden’s west coast and islands. This villa is a gem of a house, built only recently in 2013. Wood, soft colors, clean lines, and more importantly – Scandinavian simplicity is the core of this house. Can’t be better I believe. It is a blend of both modern and traditional Swedish design – a perfect marriage. It was on sale at Kvarteret Mäkleri.

A perfect island living – for me at least. Life is not all about perfection I know and there are too many ups and downs to make a life anywhere near perfection – but to get to live on this house is half the battle done. That is my definition of perfection or near perfection. 🙂
